The Brave Little Space Heater And Friends

By Sunday morning, when I checked the thermostat and it only read 60 degrees, I knew something was afoot. When Josh and I had come back from Tom and Amy's Saturday night, I think we were too tired to notice that it was unusually cold in the house. On Sunday morning, though, my rampant sliding of the thermostat to test the heat pump's ability to turn on and off proved fruitless, so we immediately called our landlords and set the repair process in motion. It was still Monday before the heating guys could come take a look at it, though, and proclaim the current heating system in our house completely dead.

I would say Monday night, with a low of 29 or so, was probably the coldest we had to endure. Matthew was on travel for work, the lucky guy, so Josh and I invested in a couple of shiny new space heaters from Home Depot. That was good! My space heater kept tripping the circuit in my room. That was bad. I found as many comforters and blankets that I had and piled them on my bed, creating a sort of stuffed burrito effect. That was good! My head was still cold, however, so I slept fitfully while having weird Taco Bell dreams. That was bad. I briefly thought about opening up the basement as a cold storage business as I plodded around the house in socks, sweatpants, and a double layer of long-sleeved t-shirt and a sweater. That would've been good!

When I returned home yesterday afternoon, however, I had to lay my start-up plans aside. Our defunct heat pump was strewn along the sidewalk with its guts hanging out, and the two heroic heating guys were wrapping up their astounding work. We now have a shiny new heating and A/C system, thanks to our excellent and fast-reacting landlords.

I must say, even though I was basically acclimated to living in a sub-60 degree room temperature environment for a few days, I believe I'm officially soft when it comes to basic living conditions. So sue me! Bring on the glorious, glorious heat!
